His big hands
dreamed beneath the blankets.
started out the day thirsty.
rolled a bandage between them.
avoided making eye contact in the lift.
caught the moon in mid-sentence.
watched themselves burn all day.

When there is no food*
What i do
when there is no food in the house
is to put water on the
stove
and to leave it to boil
as if i am going to put
some mealie meal
into it,
then we drink
the water
and go to bed.
